  • 11:00 | Accelerating Digital Transformation On-Prem and on the Edge by Alessandro Pilotti, Cloudbase Solutions

    The advent of cloud computing triggered a wave of workload migrations and replatforming that is still in motion. During the past decade and a half the offers coming from the hyperscalers prompted enterprises to move their applications on public clouds, followed by a more recent counter-migration where a renewed interest for on-prem scenarios can be seen, mostly due to cost cutting strategies and the maturity that the ecosystem (OpenStack, Kubernetes, etc) reached. Additionally, edge computing brought up new challenges that require workloads to run locally while retaining connectivity requirements with other components running elsewhere. Choosing the right platforms and the right tactics for moving workloads is not an easy task, especially for large enterprises. During this session we will talk about how Coriolis can be used to accelerate and fully automate VM migrations from public clouds or on-prem towards OpenStack, Kubernetes / KubeVirt and other targets. We will also introduce recent optimizations in running Kubernetes both bare metal and on OpenStack thanks to the Kubernetes Cluster API, which proved to be a big step forward in enabling the aforementioned use cases.
