Trusted OpenStack
Upgrade Services

ELIMINATE THE RISK OF INFRASTRUCTURE OBSOLESCENCE.

Sardina Systems delivers reliable, low-risk upgrades that improve performance while keeping your critical workloads running.

We support both community OpenStack environments and FishOS deployments, with a zero operational downtime guarantee for FishOS upgrades.

The Complexity Gap

63% of IT leaders cite upgrade complexity as their primary barrier to OpenStack adoption. DIY upgrades often result in 48+ hours of service interruption.

Our proven methodology ensures a smooth transition to the latest OpenStack version. We manage the full upgrade process, including orchestration, dependency mapping, and data migration —
delivering a seamless experience from start to finish.

Sardina Systems Solution

Phase 1: Assessment

We begin with a comprehensive evaluation of your current OpenStack environment.
Our team analyzes architecture, dependencies, workloads, integrations, and high-availability design to identify potential risks and upgrade constraints.

This phase results in a detailed upgrade roadmap, including version path validation, compatibility checks, and a risk mitigation strategy tailored to your infrastructure.

  Infrastructure and architecture review

  Dependency and compatibility analysis

  Risk assessment and mitigation planning

  Upgrade roadmap definition

Phase 2: Simulation

Before touching production, we simulate the upgrade in a controlled staging environment.
This allows us to validate the upgrade path, test integrations, and identify potential issues in advance.
Simulation minimizes uncertainty and ensures predictable execution during the live upgrade.

  Staging environment preparation

  Upgrade path validation

  Integration and workload testing

  Performance benchmarking

Phase 3: Sardina Systems
Upgrades Orchestration

With over 10 years of experience and our proprietary automation engine, we execute controlled rolling upgrades on a per-node basis.

For FishOS Cloud environments, we deliver upgrades with zero operational downtime. For custom OpenStack deployments, we provide tailored upgrade strategies that ensure critical workloads remain fully operational throughout the process.

Automated health checks at every step

Instant rollback triggers for unexpected anomalies

  Live-migration of critical workloads

Phase 4: Verification

After the upgrade is complete, we conduct thorough validation to ensure system stability, performance, and operational readiness.

We verify services, APIs, integrations, and workloads to confirm everything is functioning as expected. Any necessary fine-tuning or optimization is performed at this stage.

  Post-upgrade system validation

  Performance and stability testing

  Workload and service verification

Why We Are Different

Performance Optimization

Most clients experience up to a 40% performance improvement after upgrading, driven by enhanced system features, bug fixes, and critical security updates.

Fast & Efficient Upgrades

OpenStack upgrades are complex. With an experienced partner, you can significantly reduce production downtime and internal effort. Our typical upgrade takes 2–4 weeks, compared to 2–3 months (or more) for in-house upgrade projects.

Dedicated team included

Every upgrade is monitored by a dedicated team of OpenStack architects from start to finish.

FAQ

  • Yes, absolutely.
With years of experience in OpenStack environments, we provide upgrade services tailored specifically to custom deployments. Our team carefully assesses your architecture, dependencies, and operational requirements to ensure a smooth, secure, and efficient upgrade — while preserving your existing infrastructure and configurations.

  • For organizations running FishOS Cloud, upgrades are performed seamlessly with zero operational downtime.

For custom OpenStack environments, the impact depends on your specific architecture. High-availability setups typically experience minimal or no service interruption.

During the initial assessment phase, our team evaluates your infrastructure and develops a detailed upgrade plan designed to minimize any potential service disruption.

  • Our assessment phase includes a hardware compatibility check. If the hardware won’t support the new version, we provide a migration path to new infrastructure with zero service interruption.

  • In OpenStack, skipping releases is generally not supported. The only exception is SLURP (Skip Level Upgrade Release Process) versions, which are specifically designed to allow limited version jumps.

As a best practice, we strongly recommend upgrading version by version to ensure stability, compatibility, and long-term reliability. While skipping eligible SLURP releases is technically possible, it still carries additional risk and must be carefully assessed.

If a SLURP upgrade path is appropriate for your environment, we will evaluate it during the planning phase.

In most cases, we structure the project to follow the safest upgrade path — even if the commercial scope remains aligned with a single upgrade engagement.

  • For custom OpenStack environments, upgrade services are priced on a per-core, per-version basis for the entire project. This provides transparent and predictable costs based on the size of your infrastructure and the upgrade scope.
For FishOS users, upgrade services are included as part of the per-core licensing model.
