OpenInfra & Cloud Native Day Vietnam 2025 took place on July 26 in Hanoi. The event gathered over 1000 professionals, including CTOs, CIOs, DevOps engineers, cloud architects, and IT managers, for a day of insightful presentations, networking, and community-driven collaboration.
Hosted by VietOpenInfra, in partnership with the Vietnam Internet Association (VIA) and Vietnam Free & Open Source Software Association (VFOSSA), this annual event is part of the global OpenInfra movement and has become a leading platform for discussing the future of open infrastructure, cloud-native development, and emerging technologies.
Big Ideas and Trends from VOID 2025
Under the theme “The New Era of Vietnam’s Digital Leap”, this year’s event reflected the region’s growing ambitions in digital transformation. The sessions explored key issues and real-world approaches that are shaping cloud infrastructure in Vietnam and beyond.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Speakers shared hands-on strategies for running AI workloads, with a focus on deploying models, managing GPU usage, and building platforms that support real-world AI applications.
- Cloud Native Infrastructure
Sessions explored how organizations are building scalable, flexible environments with Kubernetes and OpenStack, including service mesh, storage management, and implementation tips.
- Open Source and Community Collaboration
The event highlighted the value of open-source contributions and active community engagement, with local and international groups sharing their work in shaping modern infrastructure.
- System Modernization
Migration from legacy systems, especially VMware, remains a priority for many organizations. Several talks explored how to transition to cloud-native platforms while improving efficiency and reducing vendor dependency.
- Digital Sovereignty and Edge Computing
With national digital autonomy on the agenda, sessions addressed sovereign cloud strategies, 5G integration, and edge computing, positioning Vietnam for leadership in regional tech infrastructure.
“This has been a particularly important and engaging topic. Vietnam’s cloud market is growing at an incredible pace, and sovereign cloud strategies are key to supporting that growth. By keeping data within Vietnam’s legal framework, organizations can not only ensure compliance but also reduce latency and lower costs. Cost-effective, locally-hosted cloud services will be essential for fueling the country’s next phase of digital expansion.” –
Kenneth Tan, Executive Director at Sardina Systems.
- DevOps and Automation
Talks addressed automation best practices: CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes operations, and deployment workflows aimed at improving speed and efficiency.
- Enterprise Cloud Strategy
Real-world stories from telecoms, banks, and cloud providers showed how Vietnamese enterprises are adopting cloud at scale and preparing for future growth.
Kenneth Tan’s Take on VMware to OpenStack Migration
Kenneth Tan’s session “Preparing VMware Systems for OpenStack Migration” focused on the practical steps companies can take to move away from VMware. He shared methods for assessing existing setups, planning smooth migrations, and minimizing disruptions using automation and best practices.
To bring theory into practice, he introduced Sardina Systems’ case study involving FIFGROUP, an Indonesian financial services provider. With the help of FishOS Move It appliance, FIFGROUP migrated from VMware to OpenStack in just four days, boosting scalability, cutting costs, and streamlining operations.
Conclusions and Observations
OpenInfra & Cloud Native Day Vietnam 2025 showed just how much Vietnam is becoming a key player in open-source innovation and cloud-native tech in the region. A great mix of global insights and local expertise created a dynamic exchange of ideas around AI, automation, infrastructure, and digital sovereignty.
The strong participation of enterprises, tech leaders, and open-source communities reflects the maturing cloud landscape in Vietnam. With practical sessions, hands-on case studies, and engaging panels, the event not only shared knowledge but also brought the OpenInfra community closer together.
Looking forward to the continued growth of this vibrant community and to seeing what’s next at VOID 2026!
