Sardina Systems continues to support Europe’s digital sovereignty by enabling independent cloud providers to build and scale resilient, high-performance infrastructure.
We are excited to announce our cooperation with GooshCloud, a European cloud provider delivering secure, high-performance cloud infrastructure, managed services, and hosting solutions to tens of thousands of customers. By adopting FishOS, Sardina Systems’ OpenStack-based cloud platform, GooshCloud is strengthening the reliability, performance, and scalability of its cloud infrastructure and services.
About GooshCloud
Headquartered in the Netherlands, GooshCloud supports a large and growing customer base and powers a substantial number of platforms and websites worldwide. Founded over a decade ago, the company has pursued a clear mission: to make world-class hosting accessible to everyone.
Today, GooshCloud stands out in the market for its ability to combine high-performance infrastructure with competitive pricing, offering a competitive alternative to larger public cloud providers in terms of price and performance. Its approach to infrastructure is built around automation and consistency through Infrastructure as Code, while its Zero Trust mindset makes continuous security verification and compliance an integral part of how its infrastructure and services are designed and operated.
GooshCloud offers a broad range of services, including WordPress, VPS, storage, and cloud hosting, as well as dedicated servers. Its managed services portfolio includes databases, Kubernetes, load balancing, RabbitMQ, and more, helping customers scale their digital projects with confidence.
Building a Scalable European Cloud Platform
To stay ahead of customer demand and expand globally, GooshCloud chose FishOS to consolidate AWS workloads, legacy VMs, and bare-metal systems into a modern, multi-tenant platform. Storage was built on FishOS Ceph, while legacy workloads on Proxmox were also moved into a new setup without disrupting operations.
Modern hosting and cloud providers demand flexibility, scalability, and reliable performance. GooshCloud exemplifies all three. By adopting cloud-native technologies, they’re evolving beyond traditional web hosting into high-value services such as managed applications, data platforms, and modern AI-ready cloud infrastructure. We’re proud that the FishOS platform is part of this journey.
Kenneth Tan, Executive Director at Sardina Systems
Built on OpenStack, Kubernetes, and Ceph, FishOS automates cloud operations and upgrades for service providers. Its distributed architecture provides high availability (HA) by default and can scale to 100,000+ physical servers. In addition, Sardina Systems’ FishOS comes with unique components, including its ML-driven Health Monitoring component. The component continuously tracks, analyzes, and predicts potential issues before they affect customers, helping operators like GooshCloud maintain reliable service.
Overcoming Deployment Challenges
Complex infrastructure deployments inevitably come with technical bottlenecks. In this case, what matters is how quickly engineers can diagnose and address them before they affect operations.
The deployment at GooshCloud came with several challenges. In the beginning, engineers discovered Intel NIC (ICE) driver issues affecting multiple machines, causing memory leaks and instability across storage and controller nodes.
Instead of resorting to costly hardware replacements, the team designed and implemented a tailored kernel update on AlmaLinux nodes. Sardina Systems’ support engineers were able to diagnose a memory leak in the kernel, identify the faulty driver despite the absence of logs or prior diagnostic information, and deliver a fix that not only resolved the issue but also ensured stable 25Gbps network performance across the cluster.
Another major challenge came from the strict networking setup at the data center: the primary network interface (NIC) was reserved for management only. Sardina Systems addressed this by implementing a custom DHCP-based workaround that allowed the interface to be integrated into the overall network setup, while adding dedicated load balancing nodes to handle external customer traffic.
Sardina Systems’ hands-on engineering approach allowed the project to move forward without delays, resulting in a robust and scalable FishOS-powered environment, ready to handle both everyday hosting workloads and advanced managed services.
How FishOS Benefits Cloud Hosting Providers
- Multi-Tenancy and Access Control: FishOS provides secure tenant separation for cloud hosting providers with fine-grained RBAC, VLAN segmentation, and project-level quotas. This allows service providers to host thousands of customers on shared infrastructure while keeping tenants’ data isolated.
- High Availability and Uptime: FishOS combines built-in health monitoring, fault tolerance, and zero-downtime upgrade capabilities to help cloud providers minimize downtime and maintain reliable services for their customers.
- Elastic Scalability: The platform’s architecture is built to allow its users to grow their infrastructure without rebuilding it. Users can add new compute or storage resources or expand into new data centers – all while maintaining consistent performance.
- Workload Flexibility: The FishOS platform supports VMs, containers, and bare-metal workloads. It is compatible with diverse server types and vendors, giving users the freedom to deploy it on a wide range of infrastructure environments that meet users’ performance and cost requirements.
- Cost Efficiency: FishOS and Sardina Systems’ licensing model are designed to help customers reduce CapEx and OpEx compared with competing solutions. The software’s automation and workload optimization components maximize hardware utilization, while per-core licensing makes costs predictable.
- Seamless Cloud Migration: With the FishOS Move It migration appliance, service providers can streamline the transition from their existing environments to FishOS. Planning, data transfer, and migration support are all included in a single fixed-price license, with no additional charges.
